Back On My Feet
For the past 7 days I have been virtually inactive due to the weather change - spring has sprung and my allergies are in full bloom. The pollen in the air has kept me off my feet and in bed for about 14 hours a day. I’ve compiled a simple list of various methods that will help clear you up and get you running at your best.
After a miserable week of debilitating congestion and achey pains I’m glad to say that I’ve been able to overcome the worst of my allergies. I hope to share with you a few simple solutions that will help you overcome any hay fever symptoms you may be experiencing.
Fighting with Food
There are many foods that can help you overcome allergies, but no one food will amazingly make you better. Try eating different types of food that will perform different functions, overall helping your body adjust properly to the allergens in the air.
- Local Raw Honey - Local honey works like allergy shots, consuming local raw honey will help your body build up a tolerance to pollens that will effect you in your living space. The best place to find local honey is at a farmers market.
- Garlic and Onions - Garlic and onions contain sulfur, which will help detoxify your body. Try including garlic and onions with every meal during the spring season.
- Vitamins - Boosting vitamins A, C, E and B will help reduce inflammation, try taking a multivitamin as suggested by a doctor.
Keeping It Clean
Keeping your skin and your living space clean is a vital element that will help your body remain clear and function properly indoors.
- Spring cleaning is a must to clear out all of the stored dust from Winter and any pollen that comes into the house from foot traffic. Purchasing an inexpensive duster and quickly dusting down the house every night, which can take as little as a minute, will help keep allergens from building up and clear of the air.
- Showering at night will help clear all of the allergens that may have stored on your skin and in your hair during the day. Showering before bed will help keep those allergens from storing on your bed and spreading throughout the rest of your body.
- Washing your sheets at least once a week will clear away any allergens that are deposited in your bedding every night.
- Bathing your pets, especially if you have an outdoor pet that comes inside is vital to keeping symptoms away as outdoor pets are magnets for allergens. Try bathing them every few days.
Cleaning your body, Inside Out
Cleaning your body is a great way to keep the allergies away, but for those who are already congested will need to clear the inside of their body. This will keep you functioning properly in every aspect, from inside to out.
- Nasal Wash Treatment - A nasal wash treatment is usually performed with salt water and will clear out any stored up mucus along with may other benefits. A do-it-yourself guide can be found here.
- Using Heat, Saunas and Hot Showers - Using heat is a great way to relieve the tensions of your muscles and help you relax. If you use a sweat room or a sauna you will be detoxifying yourself at the same time. There are many benefits here such as oxygenating the skin tissue, enhancing your metabolic process and draining your sinuses.
Stick to it!
These are all great suggestions that may help with a one-time use, but work best when continued over a period of time. Following these suggestion for at least months time, daily or weekly will help keep your body running at it’s fullest potential. For best results continue indefinitely as part of a healthy life style.

I hope you enjoy and use the few simple steps that will help you function better when you are at your worst. Leave a comment and let me know what difference you’ve noticed!
